A Hiatus Ends . . .

I've been out and I have news. I am converting this blog to a website and I expect to have it up very soon. There are other things I want to do that I just can't achieve on this blog. So look for it at: www.nurseliterature.com.

In the meantime, if you haven't read them, two awesome nurses have written articles in defense of the romance genre. Eileen Dreyer's article is here. Teresa Medeiros' article is here.

I am going to put up a list of summer reading in the next day or two. There are many books by nurse authors coming out this summer!

And, I apologize for the delays on the reviews. They will be posted on the new site.

Friday Round-Up -- The Saturday Edition

Sorry for the late post. Last week's WRW Retreat was fun, but also tiring.

Congratulations to Theresa Medeiros and Cheryl Wyatt for winning a Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award. Therese won for her historical romance Some Like it Wild and Cheryl for Ready-Made Family, a Steeple Hill Love-Inspired Romance.

Gina Holmes’ debut novel Crossing Oceans is now available online and in most stores. (I received my copy yesterday and will be reviewing this book in May).

Gina's blog Novel Journey has been named among the top websites for writers by Writer's Digest magazine. I just started following it a few weeks ago and there is always a wealth of useful information. This week's subjects covered: what to look for when someone is lying and handling live TV interviews.

Speaking of reviews . . . my review of Terri DuLong's debut, Spinning Forward, will be out on Monday.

REVIEW – The Boss and Nurse Albright by Lynne Marshall

I have to admit first off I am a fan of Medical Romances published by Harlequin. I’ve been reading them since 2005 and have grown to look forward to some of the authors. Lynne is one of them.

Nurse Claire Albright is starting over in Santa Barbara after a divorce from the man she thought would be her mate for life. She has her young daughter Gina in tow and is determined to make it as a single mother.

Dr. Jason Rogers wants to be in his own little world. The less personal contact with others, the better. But, when he meets Claire and her daughter he begins an internal struggle over what he wants and what he thinks he deserves.

The couple initially spars over Claire’s strong beliefs in the healing powers of homeopathic care. Jason has alot to overcome -- his past loss is a doozy -- and Claire seems like the right person to help him do it.

I like Claire’s positive attitude – about life, tackling challenges and her own chronic illness. I guess that portion appealed to me because I am someone who doesn’t respond well to negativity and sometimes we see it way too much in health care.

Lynne has a knack for creating characters you can relate to and stories that stay with you. The Boss and Nurse Albright did just that for me.

I haven't yet established ratings (not sure if I will), but if I did I would give this book one of the highest. Looking forward to Lynne's next story. :-)

What's This All About?

I believe nurses are creative creatures. And, to prove that point, I am going to start reviewing books, new and old written by nurses. Also note the list on the left of current nurse authors (work in progress).

If you are a nurse and interested in learning about the writing process, you may want to stick around. I will try to post a thing or two about the journey to publication for some nurses.
